Working with Spread the Sign
During a hot period we had a final project meeting in Madrid, Spain in June 2015. The European Commission paid us a visit and we got an opportunity to show them the massive work it takes to translate between the different languages we use during our meetings – to include us all, both deaf and hearing.
Besides the meetings we also went to the deaf association and got to see a theatre play by deaf actors.
Our first meeting during 2015 was in Klagenfurt, Austria in February. The meeting was held at the University were the University sign was shown in signs as well! Here we talked about linguistic issues and our new category system. We got a really good guided tour around the region and saw parts of the beautiful country.
Nice summer weather in Lodz, Poland in October of 2014.
At our meeting we got an idea of how a hand shape search engine in our dictionary could look like in the future. This was the first time we met our Ukrainian partner. During the night we also got to see the fantastic Light Move Festival!
The Estonian team was hosting the meeting of May, 2014, held in Tallin. Good meeting, very well organized! We also visited the Tallinna Heleni Kool (The school for the deaf, named after the famous Helen Keller).
In February of 2014 the meeting took place in Venice.
This was a big meeting! Here we had the official release for the Italian Spreadthesign with a conference at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. We got really nice coverage in Italian media. And also – who doesn’t love the romantic city of Venice?
At the meeting in October of 2013 we were hosted by the Icelandic team in Reykjavik. We were working hard during the days to decide new functions and features of the dictionary. Luckily we had time to see the magnificent country aswel!
In October of 2012 we started our third EU project with a kick off meeting in Loka Brunn, Sweden. After long hours of concentration during meetings we went outdoord to try a competetive game of Segway Polo! Did the right team win? Thomas from Sweden thinks so and Mike from the UK agrees!
We had a cozy introduction meeting in Loka Brunn, in the deep forest of Sweden, in November 2011. New partners for this year was Poland, Estonia and Latvia. We were happy to meet them and we gladly introduced them to our dictionary and the different work tasks in the production.
In the warm automn of 2011 we arranged a symposium – Accessing Society. This took place in the Swedish Parlament in Stockholm. Her Magesty the Queen participated and in her speech she told us that in her private phone, she has our app Spread the sign!
We had a big final meeting in Izmir in Turkey, in June 2010. This was great! The media came along with the Governor and his bodyguards. Deaf actors and other deaf cultural performers went on stage to fill the audience with joy and inspiration. We also took a bus to be guided at the school for the deaf in Kinik, Mert Öztüre. Beautiful weather aswell. Who could ask for more?
